Donate Directly

While you're receiving the deluge of "end-of-quarter" appeals from the Democratic party and lodged incumbents consider the following.

You're getting hit up.  I'm getting hit up.  However, realize that the people who need your help the most are not likely to get it from the party.

The candidates in states with the hardest battles are not likely to get cash from the biggest donors.  Nor are they likely to get help from the party unless they demonstrate fund-raising or cash-in-the-bank ability.  This is the stark reality I've come to realize here in Utah, where although polls show support for my race, most donors look at it as a horse-race that is not worth supporting.

The filing date is over and there are no other D candidates running.  I am the Democratic challenger to Senator Orrin Hatch.  There is nothing that the national Democratic leadership can do to politely ask me to leave this race. Polls show that if I can get my name, background and message out to Utah, that this office can be won by a Democrat.

I've worked for a year on roughly $20,000 in donations.  Just imagine how I can stretch your dollar in this campaign and in congress.  I need your help now.

Re: Donate Directly (3.00 / 2)

I had the pleasure of donating to Richard Morrison's campaign in 2004. He didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. However, as Tom Delay was being rebuked twice in one week by the house Ethics Committee, I knew my campaign contributions were being used effectively to promote a positive Democratic message. After his loss, Richard Morrison thanked me and kept me up to date with what was going on with Delay. He persuaded me to support Nick Lampson.

Delay had no trouble winning his primary even with the ethics scandals. However, his prospects in November are not as favorable as they were in the last election.  It will be so sweet when Delay is finally defeated, in part because of his very own redistricting scheme. Even sweeter, he will be defeated by a candidate who was previously defeated by the same redistricting.

My point is, that a small contributor such as myself, can get a great deal of satisfaction out of supporting a candidate with very little resources compared to the opposition. I would also like to add that the Democrats, as a party, look (and are) weak when they do not field candidates to important congressional seats.

We need more people like you who are willing to fight difficult battles.  I wish you the very best in your endeavor.

Re: Donate Directly (none / 0)

Pete - It'd be helpful if you put your name in your posts if you want people to donate to you.  I got it from your tags, but still ...
